Colleges of further education

Hairdressing 001... offer courses at different levels

... for 16 to 18 year olds and adults

Many of the courses lead to vocational (job-related) qualifications such as BTEC, City and Guilds, Diplomas, NVQs and apprenticeships. Some may also offer academic qualifications and higher education courses.

Each college is different, so check what is available with the college. The local colleges of further education are Calderdale College and Kirklees College.

For a list of sixth forms and other colleges in Calderdale and Kirklees, see the right hand side of the full-time learning page

Foundation and employability study programmes

  • Kirklees College runs a foundation learning course, which is tailored to individual students' needs to improve their basic skills, such as English and maths, life skills and their readiness for work. The course also includes individual support.
  • Calderdale College runs an employability and life skills course, which develops interpersonal, team work and other work-related skills. It also includes help with English and maths.

Many of the students attending these courses continue on to higher level courses or into employment.
